Camp Julians Oaks Christmas Gifts 2011

We just had a wonderful Christmas time at Camp Julian Oaks with the Nativity Scene in downtown Julian, hot apple cider, warm fireplace and knitting then passing out the Christmas presents that the Dorcas Circle made. Thanks ladies for all your hard work. Bonnie shared me what one camper said. Bonnie said "Why aren't you opening up your Christmas gift? He said, "I want to wait till Christmas because it will probably be the only gift I will receive". Wow can you imagine he would only get a gift from us. That made it more the reason for us to bless these campers.

Did I look like Santa Clause?

DORCAS RETREAT 2011 NOVEMBER

Simplified it with bring your own food up; do any activity you wish, have fun and if you want to learn sewing, knitting, spinning come join us. We all had an awesome time making new friends, sharing God's word, learning new skills and having lots of fun joking around. Teri was so kind to make extra meals as a surprise and we loved the relaxed atmosphere of Julian Oaks. We are all in awe of the Virginia House and we had Tony and Tina come as we all listen to Tina talk about the blessing of camp and receive the JOY pillows. It was beyond a perfect week and a wonderful time to all gather together. Thank you Lord for wonderful friends and many blessing.

Dorcas Circle Gather and BEACON HILL LLAMA FARM

We had a great gathering with:
  • Bonnie working on JOY Pillows
  • Linda knitting a women's sweater for the boutique
  • Monica working on the Christmas Quilt
  • Terran making Valentine PIllows
  • Trudy, Terese, Maddie , and another Olsen girl working on organizing fabric that was given to us by Paradise Fibers.

We had a wonderful field trip at Dr. Ruth Baak's BEACON HILL LLAMA FARM. Ruth was kind enough to allow us at her ranch to play with and learn about her llamas. Bonnie and I hung longer there and talked to Ruth and other guests about Spinning and all sorts of fiber to spin. It was awesome. Please enjoy pictures.

Hi Ladies,

What a week and I am truly exhausted. We did our final boutique at Camp Julian Oaks for their Annual Autumn Barbecue Fundraiser 2011. Enclosed are the pictures of us ladies in our tee-shirts, Lorrie a helper and the JOY Quilt in its new home at the Virginia House. YEA! Also the valences, Linda sewed and got the fabric for, was put up too. A special thanks to Frank, my husband, who did the heavy lifting and putting up the valences and quilt. This was all done on our 34th Wedding Anniversary.

I decided to not do anymore boutiques till May at CCE annual rummage sale. I am plum tired and do not want to exert myself. My body says slow down and I must listen to that to know my limitations. Also due to the economy we are not making the money as we did in the past. Lord willing, in May 2012 we will do much better during these uncertain times.

 Anyways, a special thanks to:

  • Bonnie completing the JOY Quilt
  • Linda helping Willa with nursing home projects
  • Willa working on nursing home projects (we have lots to do in that department). Willa organizes this and will gladly take any help.
  • Me running around and constantly and  organizing.

We are hoping they will look at all the lovely handmade items and purchase them to give money to Julian Oaks. We have lots of jewelry to sell and Lorri? may help us. Lorri e-mail me on that.

We want to welcome Keri to the Dorcas Circle

I got her August 7 2011 and spend this afternoon dolling her up to bring to Camp Julian Oaks for the camp craft on the 9th

She is a Kenmore and runs like a charm. I dusted her off cleaned her really good inside and outside ran her to get the oil all over her gears. She was pretty easy to figure out how to thread. She is 30 years old all metal, my favorite, and very sturdy. She can do zigzag and straight. She has other fancy stitches but she totally meets the needs of the Dorcas Circle with zigzag and straight. I can do the maintenance on her and she is not computerized or like those plastic junky fancy machines you buy at Joannes or Walmart. She is a perfect match for the Dorcas Circle. Can't wait for all of you to meet her. She was donated by Keri Wise. It was her childhood machine since 10 years old. Keri goes to our church and her husband, Joe, runs the nursery. Make sure to give them a BIG thanks!!!

Julian Oaks 4-6 Grade Camp Craft and Gifts made by the Dorcas Circle

The Dorcas Circle went to camp to do the craft. This camp was special because the Dorcas Girls got to pass out quilts and caps. And the item that had the most love and hard work put in to it were the
Dolls, made by the Doll Ministry that Rosemary runs and does a super job.

We had enough items to pass out that we let the campers pick 2. They knew they were special because I said we are giving the most gifts to this camp. It was fun as the campers ran up to get their gifts. One camper shared how he still has his backpack from last year and how he uses it. He told me everything about his backpack from the previous year. Another camper shared how much he loves to do the craft and it was their first time, and he want to come next year to do another craft.

My most wonderful Dorcas Ladies (Linda, Teri (who does life guarding after the craft), and Bonnie) faithfully come up each week to make this possible. Without all your giving up of your valuable time, the craft and gifts would not be so such a blessing to the campers. Thanks to all the ladies who have done prep work for the craft and gift items.
