Dorcas Circle Gathering on July 21 2011

We had a wonderful gathering last week. I want to thank:

• Willa making 2 bibs and informing me what needs to be done to meet the widows needs.
  
• Monica completing her first quilt. She did an wonderful job on the binding. The most difficult part. The Indian Quilt is done and is a unique treasure to add to Tabitha's Treasures.
• Bonnie completed the Christmas Baby Quilt. A unique one. Any mother would treasure for their baby's first Christmas.
• Linda making a beautiful felted purse. Linda is so unique with developing short cuts while making a project look wonderful. I am tempted to buy this one.
• Our 2 Mormon Missionaries came. This may be their last week and Linda spent a little time teaching them to knit. Thanks Linda
• Our youngest lady, Trudy, I was soooo impressed with. She is beyond a quick learner and work the WHOLE time. She cut out around 20 bibs to bless the nursing homes with. This is an essential item for the residences.

Dolly and I had a wonderful time at Crestview Manor with the residences  to discuss the Dorcas Circle. They are so grateful for all of you who have donated your time to make handmade items for them. Without you ladies, they would not be so blessed. Thanks again from Crestview and me.

Please keep Bonnie, Linda and I in prayer. We will be at Julian Oaks this week passing out Monster Dolls, Quits and Hats. Will have pictures later. So far every camp has been wonderful to doing the craft time with us. Linda has done a wonderful job organizing the jewelry and campers come to that as well.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY Dorcas Circle July 7, 2011

The Dorcas Circle celebrated its first Christmas in July. Actually it was everyone's first Christmas in July. From the very young to the oldest of us. We worked like a team to bless the Widows and Orphans of our Society by wrapping Christmas gifts. Memri provided brownies, Willa provided cookies, coffee and drinks. Marlitt provided soft drinks. We had the children stuff pillows, make YOYO's while Christmas music played in the background. We had some reindeer antlers to wear with small Christmas lights in them. We put reindeer with the handmade pillow. The Morman Missionaries wrapped the gifts for the Campers for Christmas. Bonnie and Monica worked on quilts while Fawn organized binding. Also all the girls hand sewed YOYO. One little girl loved sewing so much that I gave her some fabric to bring home to make more YOYO. I could see how interested she was in sewing. That brought joy to my heart to pass the craft on to the next generation. Monica got to learn how to bind a quilt in the sewing room. The girls took a break and had fun eating cookies, brownies and soda.

SPINNING

Linda, Bonnie and Karen had a wonderful time teaching children about making yarn. We gave them a brief science and history lesson. We showed them the wheel then said you will learn to use a drop spindle to make your first yarn. The girls had a wonderful time learning and now know you do not get yarn just from a Walmart Shelf but it begins with the sheep and all the processing wool goes through to make yarn. The girls got to put the yarn in a hank and can knit with their first hand spun yarn.

Our next Dorcas Circle is next Thursday July 7^th. We will be celebrating but working on Christmas Gifts for the Elderly and Camp. We need help stuffing pillows and wrapping gifts up. I will do my best to have Christmas Music.

Cookies and beverage provided. Have your first Merry Christmas in July as we do Christmas in July.

Last week was great! Willa appreciates all you did to help the nursing home ministry with various projects.

• Bonnie running around and helping put out project fires. Finished Noah’s Art quilt and Memri bought it from the Boutique. Thanks Memri for you donation to Camp and Bonnie your hard work of putting the binding on the quilt.
• April writing “Jesus Love Me” in Russian on the back of Baby quilts for Russia. Cutting out adult baby bibs for the homes.
• Linda cutting out baby bibs for the homes.
• Linda knitting mittens for boutique.
• Memri working on Embroidery quilt
• Monica, steadily working on Jeff’s quilt that will bring in $100.00 to pay for the rest of the curtain project at JOY Camp.

• Willa present projects that we can do for the homes plus designing and making walker bags with a cheerful spirit.

Rosemary, from the “You are loved Doll Ministry” donated these cute little Monster Dolls that need to be dressed.  For those of you who do not sew, we could use some dressing done. May made all the monster clothes through out the year and now we get to use them. Thanks May

Curtains at Julian Oaks in the Virgina House

I was beyond impressed and blessed with the new Virginia house. I was a counselor and my camper and I would sneak up to the old Virgina house and call it the spooky house. It was a place we could go and make up ghost stories in the spooky house. We also found old pictures of the house in the wooden flooring, which were falling apart. I am so glad to be a history of this place. I enjoy and appreciate all that has been done and continually see how the Lord keeps on changing the camp so others can get to know Jesus.

Several years ago this house should have been condemned. Hamon and Construction decided to strip it down to the fireplace and rebuild it up. I asked Tina, Director of Camp Julian Oaks, will there be curtains for the girl's dorm? She said she would be so blessed if the Dorcas Circle could make them.  We have made many curtains at camp  so.....We, Dorcas Circle, volunteered to make curtains for the Girls Dorm. This would enable the girls their privacy and keep the sun out of the rooms. After purchasing fabric, getting window measurements and getting the correct rods to show off the beautiful wood frame around each windows, we were ready to ride up to Julian to spend the night and focus on getting 13 pairs  of curtains made.

I was blessed to meet Brenda Marshall, who lives in Julian, and was right there helping us to sew the curtains. Bonnie and Linda came and Bonnie was the leader of the curtain project. Linda, Brenda and I were her helpers. I found the project very relaxing once we got up there

. I did sewing, knitting and just loved the view of the mountains as I was in the BIG living room with the beautiful fireplace.

Brenda was kind enough to donate fabric for the new Hogan Cabin, which the boys will sleep in this summer.  Last summer they were in a canvas tent. We will make the curtains in San Marcos and bring them to camp to be put in. There are only 8 windows and 1 panel per window.

We went to Brenda's beautiful ranch and I could just sit in her living room and knit and enjoy the view. Brenda plans to come up to the craft days on Tuesdays during the summer months. She is an avid crafter and we can certainly use her help and great ideas. Linda will be doing jewelry making with the campers and Bonnie and I will do our sew projects with the campers.
